'It’s about saying yes to Jesus in every part of our lives' A Day of Freedom and Inner Healing in Christ through Unbound

It was a day when heaven truly touched earth, writes Sue Walsh from Unbound UK, as she reports on an unforgettable day of freedom and inner healing in Christ at St Barnabus' Cathedral, Nottingham.

25 October 2025 was a day that many will not soon forget, a day filled with faith, inner healing and the unmistakable, powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. Over 100 people were present at St Barnabus' Cathedral, for the day organised by the Diocese of Nottingham under the leadership of Joe Hopkins, the Director of Adult Formation for Mission, in collaboration with the charity, UNBOUND UK. From the opening hymn to the final song of praise late in the evening, hearts were touched, burdens lifted and lives renewed as people encountered the liberating, healing love of Jesus through the Five Keys® of Unbound Deliverance Ministry.

The event brought together ministry teams trained to minister using the Unbound model of Deliverance and inner healing from across the country. Worship was led by the talented worship group, One Hope Project, whose music carried everyone into a place of deep reflection and praise.

A Mass with Anointing of the Sick

Bishop of Nottingham, Rt Rev Patrick McKinney led a Mass with the Anointing of the Sick, beautifully grounding everything that followed in the life of the Church and the grace of the Sacraments. The liturgy invited all present to bring their wounds - physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual - to the altar, trusting in the Lord’s mercy and healing power. As each person received anointing, it was clear that the Lord was already at work. The Mass became a moment of not just healing, but also commissioning - a call to allow God to move freely in our hearts throughout the day.

Discovering the reasons we can be blocked from healing following Mass, Sue Walsh, the UK Coordinator and representative for Unbound Ministry, gave the first talk of the day: “Why might we be blocked from receiving the Healing and Freedom God desires for us?” Sue shared how many of us carry hidden wounds that can limit our ability to live fully in the freedom that Christ offers. Sue’s talk drew upon her 10 years experience in Unbound Ministry®, and upon her experience as an Alumni of the two year ‘Encounter School of Supernatural Ministry’ course, run by Encounter Ministries.

Jesus came to restore us to abundant life

Sue began by reminding us that Jesus came not only to forgive our sins but to set us free—to restore us to abundant life. Yet so many of us, she explained, live short of that fullness because of blockages and wounds that hinder the flow of God’s grace. These blockages might come from old wounds we have carried for years, sometimes without even realising it. They can stem from traumatic experiences, un-forgiveness, lies and deceptions that we have believed about ourselves or about God, or even from patterns of fear and shame that keep us bound. If left unhealed, these wounds can become entry points for the enemy - ways in which the evil one seeks to influence, deceive or discourage us.

The enemy, she said, knows where we are vulnerable and will use these access points to keep us from living in the freedom Christ has won for us. “But,” she reminded us, “God’s plan is always greater. His desire is not just to heal our pain but to restore us fully, body, mind, and spirit, so that we can walk in our true identity as beloved sons and daughters of God the Father.”

Understanding the Five Keys of Unbound

After lunch, Anne Morton, team leader of ‘Unbound Lincoln’, gave a teaching on the Five Keys® of Unbound Ministry® based on the teaching of Neal Lozano, author of “Unbound: A Practical Guide to Deliverance”. Anne’s talk was a practical overview of the Five Keys®, helping participants understand that Unbound is not simply a model for deliverance and inner healing but a model that is primarily an evangelisation tool.

The Five Keys® of Unbound are literally a call for each of us to respond to the Gospel message, in a practical but intimate way. “The Five Keys®,” Anne explained, “are five ways of responding to Jesus that open us to His freedom and healing.” She then described each one: 1. 2. 3. Repentance and Faith – turning back to God and believing in His promises with a deeper faith and surrender. Forgiveness – releasing those who have hurt us, just as we have been forgiven. Renunciation – saying ‘no’ to the lies, influences, idols, addictions, sins that have no place in our lives. 4. Authority – taking up the spiritual authority we have as children of God to command these influences to leave, in Jesus’ name. 5. The Father’s Blessing – receiving the affirmation and love of our heavenly Father, who speaks Truth into our identity.

“The Unbound model,” Anne said, “is about cooperation with grace. It’s about saying yes to Jesus in every part of our lives. It’s about focusing on the person and listening to their story and how they have responded to their life experiences - and then helping people recognise the truth about who they are in Christ.”

A Guided Holy Hour and Ministry in the Presence of the Lord

As the afternoon drew on, the church grew quiet for a guided Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament. During this time, everyone was gently led, by Sue, through the Five Keys® of Unbound. There was an atmosphere of deep peace and reverence as hearts turned toward the Lord as they forgave, repented and renounced lies and deceptions that had held them back for years. Confessions were also available in the background.

Individual Unbound Ministry® sessions were available for some who requested them. Each ministry session lasted around an hour, with two trained team members ministering with a participant through the Five Keys, helping them personally apply what they had heard throughout the day. Many testified to experiencing release, clarity and profound peace.

The Evening Healing Service: Reaching Out to Touch the Cloak of Jesus

The day culminated with a Healing Service in which those who had spent the day journeying through teaching and prayer were ready to receive all that the Lord had for them. Sue proclaimed the Gospel, followed by corporate prayer and declarations of faith led by Anne. Together, the congregation proclaimed the truth of who God is and who we are in Him - sons and daughters, loved and chosen, free and forgiven. As ‘words of knowledge’ were shared, many people felt the Lord speaking directly to their hearts.

The ministry teams quietly prayed with those who had raised their hands, offering gentle intercession. Then came the deeply moving time of personal encounter with Jesus in the Monstrance as each person present was invited to come forward for a personal encounter of intimacy and mercy with the Blessed Sacrament. In a gesture inspired by the story of the woman with the haemorrhage, who reached out to touch the hem on Christ’s cloak, people were invited to reach out in faith, to “grab the tassels of His cloak”, believing that He could make them whole. One by one, the faithful came forward, gazing upon the Lord truly present in the Eucharist— Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity - and, as He slowly paused and passed by, there was a tangible sense of His compassion and power moving among the people.

As the evening drew to a close, the whole church lifted their voices in praise. One Hope Project led worship with songs exalting Jesus as King, and joy filled the air. The final song was a triumphant celebration of God’s goodness - a fitting conclusion to a day where heaven had truly touched earth.

The Fruits of the Day

In the days following the event, participants have shared testimonies of newfound peace, of burdens lifted, of forgiveness finally granted and of inner healings. Many shared that they felt a fresh sense of purpose and an awakening of hope. The testimonies are a reminder that God continues to move powerfully in His Church today - the Holy Spirit is still healing, still freeing, still restoring His people to wholeness. Through Unbound Ministry® and the Five Keys®, countless lives are being touched by the truth that Jesus came to proclaim: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free.” (Luke 4:18)
