A podcast which dramatises Gospel stories featuring women has been recognised by media group Feedspot as one of the 50 Best UK Christian Podcasts.
A Beautiful Thing, a podcast with Angela Alves (formerly Ward), was given the recognition on 20 August, where it was recommended as one of the "50 Best UK Christian Podcasts worth listening to in 2025."
Reflecting on the award, Angela highlighted the unique nature of her podcast, telling CCR: “I still don't see any other podcasts that's doing what I'm doing, which is essentially audio drama on the women in Scripture.” She also said she was grateful to her listeners"for listening and the support."
In the podcast, Angela dramatises the stories of women in the Bible through audio drama, highlighting the highs, lows, and encounters with the Lord they experienced. She said: “I've stuck to the women's ones because, well, I am a woman.”

A fresh and immersive way to encounter God’s Word
Angela Alves is a former actress and current RE teacher who blends storytelling, drama, and prayerful reflection to bring the women of Scripture to life. With ministry experience through SPEC, Sion Community, and other parish ministry in the UK, Angela’s episodes offer Christian women—and men too—a fresh and immersive way to encounter God’s Word.
The podcast is inspired by the words spoken by Jesus to Mary of Bethany: “She has done a beautiful thing for me” (Mark 14:6). Her podcast offers a fresh encounter with the women in Scripture through a dramatic re-telling of their story with some teaching and reflection. In some episodes, there are also interviews with Christian women today and Christian artists who use beauty to share the gospel.
Angela believes the Bible stories she dramatises have the power to change lives as she communicates the truth of the Gospel on her podcast.
“In all of the dramas, I have very much stuck whenever I'm quoting something that Jesus said or God said, or even one of the characters--it's quotes from Scripture,” she said.
“So I've literally been very faithful to the word of Scripture,” adding that she also uses “artistic license” in order to “make it dramatic.”
Spending time in the Sion community, Angela began to discover the path which would lead to her podcast. She said: “I took a year out, I started getting back in my creativity, and then I just started writing, and then I thought, actually, I can. I wrote for the (Sion) community, and then I thought, I can do this.
“So I started writing more and I thought, actually, let's put a series together on the women in the gospel.”
This led to an episode about Mary of Bethany, reflecting on the Passion of Christ, appearing on Premier Radio. Her work has also featured on Radio Maria.

Sharing the Good News
Joining popular UK Christian podcasts like Premier Radio’s Unbelievable? and Ask NT Wright Anything in the Feedspot award list, Angela is keen to make people more aware of her podcast. She said: “I think one of the hardest things, even, (after) receiving this award is still actually getting people to know about it. That’s one of the hardest because there's so many different podcasts out there.”
Angela’s latest series is called ‘Seven women of the Old Testament’ , in which listeners are encouraged to “step into the world of the women of the Old Covenant- faith, choices and strength that shaped history.”
With possible future plans including telling stories of Marian apparitions and “holy women” outside the Bible, Angela wants to build on her award and “to continue to tell those stories so that…Catholics (can) grow in their knowledge of Scripture” and “to continue showing the good news.”
